Photographic conservation involves the protection, treatment and research of the museum's photographic collections.

The collections currently consist of approximately 19,000 photographic works. These encompass a wide range of different material combinations within photography, from the earliest historical photographs (1840s), to contemporary photography and digital files.

In addition to looking after the museum’s photographic collections, photographic conservators frequently collaborate with paper conservators and conservators specialising in new art forms.
