Paper conservators protect, treat and research the museum's extensive collection of works on paper.

The National Museum's collections include many thousands of works on paper from the 15th century to the present day. The largest collections of works on paper comprise graphics and drawings, which constitute 56,000 works, and the architecture collection, comprising 267,000 pieces.

The paper collection encompasses a wide range of techniques, including pencil sketches and watercolours, pastels and gouache, graphics, chalk and charcoal, pen and ink drawings, books, posters, architectural drawings and design sketches.

A significant part of the work is to make the museum’s works available for exhibitions, loans and study room viewings, including through condition assessments, conservation measures, and mounting works in passepartouts and frames.
