I have an old plank of wood from 1894 with pencil writing on it. How should we preserve it for the future?
As a conservator, I really enjoy discovering these kind of written glimpses of everyday life, especially when they are still in situ. Luckily, pencil marks are pretty robust and as long as you protect the wood from light, dust and finger marks, the writing should remain visible far into the future.
Kind regards from Merle, furniture conservator
- How should one care for old furniture that’s made of completely untreated wood?

- I have some old jærstoler that are rather dirty [classic Norwegian chairs with woven straw seats]. How can I clean the seats?
