About works protected by copyright
Some artworks in the National Museum's collection are protected by copyright. As of 2020 these works amount to around 25% of the works published. The copyright of an artwork lasts for the artist's lifetime and 70 years after the end of the year of death.
Artworks in copyright are reproduced according to agreement with BONO (Norwegian Visual Artists Copyright Society). These works cannot be reproduced without permission by law or from the rightsholder / BONO. The copyright of the artworks is administrated by BONO.
It is a user's responsibility to ensure that the use of images is not in violation of the artist's copyright. If you are in doubt or wish to confirm the use of an artwork with the rightsholder, please contact BONO (www.bono.no).
