National Museum – Architecture

Have you heard of Soria Moria castle, the dwarves’ house in the tale of Snow White, or Ali Baba’s cave in One Thousand and One Nights? Fairy-tale architecture of all kinds is presented in this exhibition. 

Exhibition opening

All competition entries will be exhibited in the beautiful pavilion designed by architect Sverre Fehn. Come and join us for the exhibition opening and prize-giving on Thursday, 7 December at 17:00. There will be light refreshments and entertainment.

The gingerbread houses can be retrieved on Saturday, January 6 during opening hours, or on January 7 before 15:00. You're welcome to the audience award ceremony and a gingerbread house smash-and-eat on January 7 at 15:00. Houses not retrieved will be eaten – bring a hammer!

Competition rules 

At least 80 percent of your model must be made of gingerbread and/or other edible materials (sweets, pasta, biscuits etc.). Your creation should be mounted on a board not larger than 45 x 45 cm.


Your creations must be delivered to the National Museum – Architecture at Bankplassen 3, Oslo, between 24 and 26 November during the museum’s opening hours. Remember to put a note on your creation with a title/motto, competition category, dimensions, your name, address and telephone number, and, if you like, also the name of your school and class.

A range of prizes will be awarded. In addition to the jury prizes there is a visitors’ prize, for which visitors are asked to vote for the best creation regardless of category. The jury consists of specialists from the fields of baking and architecture.
