Reduction of outgoing loans

The new national museum in Oslo is due to open in the autumn of 2020. We have begun the preparatory work for moving the collections, a multi-faceted task representing the biggest challenge in the history of our institution. This work will intensify in the next few years, until the new museum opens.

Of the work that is particularly demanding, is the revision, documentation and conservation of our collections, all necessary in order to prepare them for the move to new premises. This work requires precisely the resources as are otherwise mobilized to handle outgoing loans, i.e. conservation, logistics, documentation and administration.

Given these circumstances, we therefore see no other possibility than to significantly reduce loans until we have moved into new premises in 2020.

Resumption of our loan handling, will commence 1 July 2020 for loans from 1 January 2021.

We regret the inconvenience that the reduction in loans might cause for your institution, and hope for your understanding.
